The Southerner Celebrates Our Filmmakers

We are happy to report that the Southerner, Midtown High School’s award winning journalism program has published a great article about our filmmakers, Carrie Miller and Margot McLaughlin. Two Grady Graduates debut dance documentary is written by Sierra Pape, News Associate Manager of the publication and appears in the Lifestyle section of the Southerner Online.

The article highlights the filmmakers status as alumni of the school (then Henry W Grady High School) and the experiences they had during their time as students that directly relates to their work on A Time with Isadora. Ms. Miller was in the Audio Visual, Tech and Film program and Ms. McLaughlin was the Associate Managing Editor of the Arts and Entertainment section of the Southerner.

I’m so thankful I took those classes in high school because it really got my feet wet in the film world. - Carrie Miller

When I was a student, I remember older classmates would graduate and I would look up to those successful in their creative fields,” McLaughlin said. “I think that Carrie is definitely also one of those people; she really has a lot of passion and vision when it comes to film. Their creative passion is unique and I think a lot of that did kind of start with the availability of art [possibilities] at Grady because you’re just surrounded by a lot of great art and resources being in Midtown. I think Carrie can be a great role model for students starting in film at Midtown, showing how you can do amazing projects even outside of school. - Margot McLaughlin
