Short Film in the Works

The next part of A Time with Isadora(ATI) will be a short film based on Beauty Through Mattus, the dance work that was created as part of this project and performed at the Salon Performance in September 2023, as a part of the Olmstead Plein Air Invitational in April of 2023 (image gallery here)and the 21st Inman Park Dance Festival in April of 2023.

The short film will be Project Director Carolyn Stine McLaughlin and Filmmaker Carrie Miller’s third project together and second as a part of ATI. Their first project together was Not That Far Away. Which was created in 2020 with the support of the City of Atlanta’s Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs as a response to the pandemic. This film can be seen here. This film uses movement and film to consider the need in all humans for communication on a primal level. The film features dance artists Evelyn McLaughlin, Margot McLaughlin and Mia Prausnitz-Weinbaum. It also has original music by Andrew Choe.

The team’s second time working together was the creating of the documentary for ATI, A Time with Isadora: How One Artist Influences Another. This full length film is available streaming here. The documentary intertwines rehearsal and performance footage, artist and audience interviews with dance history and commentary on the project’s theme. Between the two in theater presentations (Ciné Athens, The Plaza Atlanta) and viewing via online planform, the film has been seen hundreds of times.

For this new work, Ms. McLaughlin and Ms. Miller will explore two ideas. First, it is the job of the artist to work through the chaos, disorder and uncertainty to give the audience a glimps of the the divine. Second, that Beauty is necessary for humans to position themselves in the world and we are all hungry for it.

For the film, three dance artist will return to the process, Charlotte Angermeir, Julianna Feracota and Jodi Jernigan. These artists are accomplished performers and have worked both on stage and film. Ms. Jernigan is also a dance film maker.

The film will be presented in the Spring of 2023 and then be available streaming on line.
